charlston House

to make the most of my 4 day weekend i decided on a day trip. we went to Charlston Farm House near Lewes. it was fantastic, really fascinating. The house is a traditional farm house with quite pokey, low ceiling rooms, but still spacious and quirky. Each room has been decorated by the Artists who lived there, primarily by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, but also by others who visited. a great collection of art works are held there, showing the progression through Bell's and Grant's career.

i had no idea that so many people were connected to the group, and had such interesting writers, musicians and other artists involved. seeing Clive Bell's library with so many books on France, and French philosophy and what seemed to be his own notes on writers and authors, all bound and catalogued in volumes.

the studio space was fab, full of light and oddly, life. but i suppose thats because of preservation - which is key to the whole place.
it was really inspiring and surprising, and i would recommend it to all.
